Beggars can’t be choosers generally means that people who are desperate or in great need must take the help that is offered to them, even if it doesn’t really solve their problem(s).

We are going to discuss this saying today and talk about how it relates to our mindset.

You see, one of the biggest mistakes that is often made in network marketing is people want to sponsor distributors so badly that they sponsor anyone.

They are so desperate because of the financial pressure they are feeling that they don’t stop to qualify their prospects and then end up attracting the wrong people into their business. They may make a quick sale, but they will not be positioning themselves for long-term success and will end up wasting time on the wrong people!

Let’s think about it for a minute. Beggars can’t be choosers. When I think of a beggar, I think of someone who is desperate and really needy, so by the definition above desperate or needy people lose their ability to make choices.

Having the ability to choose is probably the single most important power each of us possesses. We make choices every single day, some small and some big, but in the end they all have an impact on our lives in some way or another.

So how does all of this relate to our mindset?

Well, it is extremely important that you focus on maintaining a confident, secure and abundant mindset. Even if you are not as successful yet as you want to be in your network marketing business, remaining fixated on your goals, rather than your needs, will inevitably attract the right things into your life.

If you don’t, you will allow yourself to become a “beggar.” Then you will limit your ability to make choices and then you become powerless. I’m sure that isn’t something you had in mind when you set out to have your own business!

Remember, stay focused and always position yourself as a leader, rather than someone who desperately needs to make a sale. You will be amazed at the energy and people who will be attracted to you and the choices you will be able to make!

Testing and tracking are vital components of successful internet marketing.

Think about how much time you spend writing content, posting ads, commenting on forum topics, and other forms of driving traffic. If you aren’t tracking your site’s traffic to see which methods are working and which aren’t, how will you ever know what you’re doing right and what needs improving?

How will you know which ads are making you money, and which ads are costing you money?

The simple answer is: You won’t.

You NEED to be tracking the visitors who come to your site. How did they get there? If they found you through a search engine, what keyword were they searching? What page did they land on? How long did they stay on your site? How many other pages did they look at?

These are all vital questions that need to be answered if you want an accurate picture of how effective your marketing is.

Fortunately, there is an easy and free way to gather all of this data, called Google Analytics. Analytics is an online tracking system that logs all of the traffic on your site, which you can then organize into reports and analyze, allowing you to improve your marketing and your results.

What are some of the different traffic aspects tracked by Analytics?

• Number of visits
• Number of page views
• Bounce Rate
• Average Time on Site
• Referring Websites
• Referring Keywords (both paid and organic)
• Goal Conversion

…just to name a few.

By gathering all of this data, you can effectively figure out what is working on your site, and what isn’t.

For example, what if a large number of visitors were landing on a specific page of your site after searching for a certain keyword, but none of them stayed long enough to read anything? That’s useful information. It tells you that your page is relevant enough in the eyes of the search engine, but not in the eyes of the visitor – so maybe testing a different headline will get them to stay.

That’s just one example, but here’s another, for those of you using Google Adwords. With Analytics, you can track all search traffic, or you can look at organic and paid traffic separately. What if you found a keyword that was bringing organic traffic to a specific page on your site, and getting a good response? Wouldn’t you want to start bidding on that keyword for that landing page in your Adwords campaigns? What if one of your Adgroups was failing miserably, but the keywords for that group were doing really well on a different page of your site for organic searches?

The amount of power that you gain by monitoring your site’s traffic is indescribable. Without a tool like Analytics, you’re left completely in the dark… posting ads and content and hoping for the best. Learning to track your website traffic and marketing efforts will allow you to focus on the money making activities and you will find that you become much more productive!

We’ve reached a point where a lot of us live and work with multiple computers, and often times need to be able access the same files from all of those computers. This leads to endless piles of cd’s, pockets full of flash-drives and an ever growing list of email attachments we send ourselves to get a document from one location to another.

If only there was an easy way to synchronize files between multiple computers automatically…

Enter SugarSync.

Setup is really simple. Create an account, download the SugarSync application to each computer you want to backup and/or synchronize and then select the folders you want. You can set each individual folder to either simply backup online, or synchronize with other computers.

All the files and folders you select in SugarSync are backed up to your encrypted online account, making them easily accessible from anywhere you can get an internet connection… even if you don’t have your own computer handy! The web interface also allows for easy file sharing and collaboration.

As a user, you can invite friends/family/colleagues to sign up for a free account, and then share one of your folders with them. If it’s something you just want them to be able to see (like family photos) it can be “read-only,” or if it’s a group project it can be “editable.” Then when one person updates the project, everyone’s computer has their work saved. Previous versions of all files are saved, so you can track who updated what.

Editing a Word document on one laptop (or BlackBerry) posts the changes directly to the other computer almost instantly, so all machines have the most recent version of the file at all times. Lets run through a quick overview of the online interface, the desktop client and (my personal favorite) the BlackBerry application.

When you log into SugarSync.com using your email address and password, you are greeted by a screen that lists your recent activity (across all synchronized computers), a list of computers and other important items, your available storage space and a few other goodies.

By selecting one of your synchronized computers, you have access to all of the files you have set up with SugarSync on that computer. When viewing the files on a particular computer, you can open on by clicking on it, or you can move, delete or copy. You also have an option to send files. This will send an email to any address(es) you specify with a unique link to the file(s) you selected to share. This link will allow the recipient of the email to download your file, but only for 21 days – after that the link is disabled.

This way, if you want to email a couple dozen photos to your great aunt across the country, you don’t need to waste time attaching them all.

In addition to your synced computers, you also have the option to select your “Magic Briefcase,” your Mobile Photos and your Web Archive. The Magic Briefcase is basically a folder that SugarSync creates on all of your computers that is always kept synchronized. It’s a nice, simple tool for users who don’t want to take the time to manually select folders to sync… all they need to do is drop them into the Briefcase and they are good to go.

Note: Placing files in the Briefcase does NOT copy them, it MOVES them completely.

The Mobile Photos is pretty self explanatory… these are the pictures that you have taken from your mobile phone, which we’ll discuss a little more later on. The Web Archive is a place to store files that you do not want synchronized with your computer. It’s basically just a storage vault, so you can copy something into your archive and safely delete it from your computer, knowing you still have a copy online.

Along the top of the screen you will see a tab for File Management, which is the same as selecting a computer or folder as described earlier, and a tab for Photo Gallery, which will display all the image files you have synchronized, grouped by their respective folders.

The desktop application offers pretty much all the functionality of the web client. When you first open the program you’ll see a list of the files on the computer you are currently using, as well as a list to the left containing icons for your Magic Briefcase, Web Archive, etc.

There are also convenient buttons for accessing the photo gallery, your online site and your shared folders. You can also easily send and share files, so the only time you’d really need to work directly with the online interface is when you were away from your personal computer.

Clicking the “Manage Sync Folders” button at the top of the screen will open a window that allows you to add local folders to SugarSync, as well as select folders from other computers to synchronize. If a folder is added to SugarSync but not connected to another computer, the contents are being backed up in real time, but not affecting any other hard drives. The entire interface is extremely user friendly, but if organizing different folders is more work than you are interested in, you can always just use the Magic Briefcase as described earlier.

This is where it gets really fun. SugarSync offers several mobile clients including support for iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices, in addition to the ability to access your online account from pretty much any web enabled phone.

From the SugarSync application you can do pretty much anything you want. Accessing computers and online files is a breeze, simply navigate to and select the file you need and SugarSync will download it to your phone and cache it for use.

If you have the right software, you can edit files from your phone (usinge “Docs-To-Go” to edit an MS Word document on a BlackBerry for example). Once you finish editing a file, SugarSync notes the change and asks if it should be uploaded.

You can easily upload any files from your BlackBerry, the only problem here is that there isn’t an option to upload multiple files into a que – each file must be selected individually. This makes uploading let’s say an photo or two that you want to share really quickly a breeze, but beyond that, you will probably want to wait to transfer the files to your computer and upload them from there.

One of the real benefits of the Mobile application is that if you know in advance that you want the pictures you are taking uploaded, you can fire up the application and select “Take photo,” which will launch your BlackBerry’s native camera application and upload any pictures you take from there (please note, only photos taken from within the SugarSync app are automatically uploaded) to you Mobile Photos folder, which is synchronized across all of your computers.

Viewing images from your device is equally simple. Each image is downloaded and and cached to your phone, and you can scroll through the pictures in a particular folder one at a time. Each picture also has a “High Res” option in case you need to view in greater detail.

SugarSync is also capable of streaming music to your phone as well, so if you synchronize your iTunes library, you’ll be able to access it anywhere, without necessarily having to keep it all on your phone at once.

SugarSync offers several different price options depending on how much storage you need. Each plan includes a 30 day free trial, which is plenty of time to get comfortable with it before making any final decisions.

Sometimes when working online you need to grab an image of something on your screen. It could be anything from a logo, to a screenshot or a short demo video for a team member. The problem is that grabbing that on-screen content isn’t always easy.

Let’s face it, taking a screen shot, copying it into an image editor, cropping and resizing the image, saving it, attaching it to an email… is just way too much work!

So, what’s the solution?

Jing Project or Jing is an incredible tool designed to simplify the process of saving and sharing the things that happen on your computer screen. The basic version is available for free at JingProject.com.

Once installed, Jing takes the form of a small yellow sun. When not in use, that sun sits at the edge of your screen so it’s out of the way. Whenever you need it, simply move your mouse over the little yellow sun and three “rays” will appear with “Capture,” “History,” and “More” buttons that look like the picture to the right.

Clicking capture will allow you to select the area of your screen you want by clicking and dragging. Then it’s a simple matter of selecting whether you want an image or a video. Choosing image lets you save an image file anywhere you want on your computer, while video lets you create a screen capture of the section you’ve selected.

This is great for demonstrating something to a teammate or coworker.

Images can even be edited right within Jing. Arrows, boxes and highlighting, along with captions can all be added before saving the file.

Additional options include integrated Flickr uploads for images, as well as FTP integration. This means you don’t need to capture your image or video, save it, open your FTP client and upload the file. You can just save your file and hit the FTP button right in Jing and it’s off!

Jing Pro edition unlocks additional features to allow for even more sharing options, but for most users the basic free version is enough to save a TON of time.

Video marketing is a phenomenal way to spread your message and network.

People love videos, search engines love videos, they are simply one of the best ways to drive traffic on today’s internet – if you know what you’re doing.

Putting your videos up on YouTube is a great start. It’s the most popular of the video sharing platforms and gets a lot of attention.

That doesn’t mean it is the only platform you want to use. There are literally dozens of other sites that you can use to share your content and increase the links and traffic to your site, but who has time to create accounts and submit the same content to dozens of sites at a time, over and over again?

Communication is key.

Demonstration and collaboration are essential.

One of the most essential aspects of network marketing is building your brand. Your brand is your voice. It’s your image. Its what comes into people’s minds when they see or hear your name. Your brand is what your audience will rally behind and follow.

Social media is a key component to branding yourself online. Sites like Twitter and Facebook are where people will discover you, but once they’ve found you, it’s important that they can get to know you. It’s vital that you have more to offer than your status updates.

That’s where having a blog comes in. A professional looking blog sends a clear message to your network of friends and prospects that you know what you are doing, and lets them learn as much as possible about you and what you do. A good blog turns those friends and prospects into customers and fans.

Deciding how to go about setting up your first blog is no easy task. Should you use a free option, like Blogger, or WordPress.com? Or is it worth the investment to set up a self-hosted blog? The answer is yes, it is definitely worth it, and when it comes to self-hosted blogging platforms, WordPress is hands down the best option we’ve found.

What’s The Difference Between WordPress.com and WordPress.org?

WordPress.com is a free blogging platform which allows you to create an account and start a blog on their servers, completely free. While this is great for the casual blogger, there are several drawbacks to consider if you want your blog to be taken seriously. First off, your free blog is going to have an undesireable address, since free wordpress blogs look like this: yourblogname.wordpress.com.

Doesn’t exactly present the most professional image. You really want NEED to have your own domain name attached to your blog. To do this on a free blog, you’ll need to purchase the domain name, and an upgrade to map it to you blog – which is no longer “free.” Additionally, you’ll be limited in terms of styling and functionality. We’ll discuss that more in a moment.

WordPress.org is completely different animal. You can download the WordPress platform and install it on your own server or hosting account. This means you have your own independent blog, with your own domain name. You also have access to all of the files associated with your blog, and whatever theme you choose to style it with (oh, and you also have access to literally thousands of more themes than you would with a free blog). This means you (or someone you know/hire) can customize literally every detail of your site, from the color of the background to the size of the font.

You also have access to plugins, which are extensions of WordPress that can be installed on your blog to add virtually any function you can imagine. There are thousands of plugins out there that can do anything from displaying your Twitter updates, to tracking visitors to your site or you can even create an entire product catalog and shopping cart system. Plugins are the real prize of a self hosted WordPress blog, because they enable you to make your site into pretty much anything you can imagine.

How Much?

Okay, so if a WordPress.com blog is free, how much does it cost to use it on my own site?

Surprise! It’s also free. WordPress is a free to use, open source platform (meaning the code that runs it is available to anyone – allowing for the creation of all the themes and plugins that are available) so it costs nothing to download and use. You will need to purchase a domain name (usually under $10/year) and a hosting account (generally around $80/year) and you’re good to go.

Basically, for about $90 a year you can have a fully functional, professional blog building your brand and turning your audience into customers.

Where Do I Start?

1. You need a domain name, and a hosting account. We recommend using one of these registrars:
   • BlueHost – WordPress.org’s top recommended host
   • GoDaddy – One of the most popular domain registrars on the internet
2. Install WordPress. Both of the sites below have easy installation options that do the hard parts for you, or you can always download WordPress from WordPress.org and install it yourself with the provided instructions.
3. Start writing! Once WordPress is installed, you can start creating content. Granted, there are other things to consider – like themes, plugins, optimization, etc. Those will come with time.

I spent a few years as a full time bartender at a restaurant and enjoyed the job at the time. I look back now on my time there and reflect on the similarities between being a bartender and now being a network marketer.

When I first started bartending, I never regularly had a full bar of patrons. I waited on people as they came in the door and decided to sit at the bar, because they wanted to sit at the bar and not necessarily because I was bartending.

Over time I developed my skills as a bartender and more importantly, I got to know my guests on a more personal level. I began developing relationships with them. Soon they weren’t necessarily coming to our restaurant because our beer tasted any different than anywhere else, but rather because they wanted to go somewhere where the bartender knew them and could anticipate their needs.

As the years went by, I began to make much more money because of the “regulars” I enjoyed waiting on at my bar. Many of them had their beers waiting on the bar as they walked through the front door and they appreciated that, they saw a value in it.

There was one particular group of “regulars” that came in on Tuesday nights, every week, and I enjoyed waiting on them. After I left they went back for a couple of weeks, but then decided not to continue going there. They now go to the bar across the street. I know this because, to this day, and I left over 5 years ago, I still occassionally run into a couple of them. They still go out on Tuesday nights and they still go to the competition across the street…and they still invite me to meet them over there for a drink

I don’t say all of this to imply that I think I was such a wonderful bartender. My bartending skills are certainly not the point of this post.

I say this because I am trying to demonstrate the simplicity of attraction marketing. Brand yourself and provide value to your target market and you will be successful, regardless of what you are selling.

Remember, there are thousands of distributors in your network marketing company and you are all offering the same products/business opportunity. The only difference in what you are selling is YOU. You must become so valuable to your target market that they will want to join YOU, not your competition.

Give them a reason to join your team. Provide them value and they will look to you as a leader. Anticipate their needs and they will appreciate that. Make yourself so “magnetic” that they will look nowhere else but to you when they are ready to start their own business!

Attraction marketing is not flashy, it’s simple, but sometimes it’s the simple things that we all tend to overcomplicate in life
